Attorney General-elect Andrew Cuomo

NEW YORK, NY (November 20, 2006)- Attorney General-Elect Andrew Cuomo today announced the creation of a Transition Committee which will help to recruit top-flight talent to join the staff currently serving in the Office of the Attorney General and to suggest initiatives and ideas to help protect the needs and interests of all New Yorkers.

At an event at Fordham Law School in New York City, Cuomo announced the esteemed members of his Transition Committee who will immediately begin a talent search for the best and brightest attorneys to join the team. The Transition Committee is comprised of pre-eminent leaders from New York and across the country and reflects a broad range of legal, academic and professional talent across a wide spectrum of backgrounds.

A panel of nationally acclaimed special advisors and chairs who have served at the highest levels of government will help guide seven committees that will draw talent to all areas of the office including: Antitrust/Investment Protection, Civil Rights, Consumer Protection/Labor, Criminal/Medicaid Fraud, Environment, Public Integrity and Solicitor General/State Counsel. While the members of the Transition Committee will be helping to recruit talent, it should be noted they will not make the final hiring decisions nor will they provide guidance or opinions on any cases pending in the Office of the Attorney General.

"New Yorkers can be proud of the extraordinary talent of the lawyers and employees who have helped the Office of the Attorney General achieve national prominence," said Attorney General-Elect Andrew Cuomo. "Continuity is extremely important and I look forward to working with them as we fight for justice on behalf of all New Yorkers. I welcome and encourage new legal talent to add to the high caliber of our team."

"Andrew's vision of the office and strong leadership qualities will attract and retain men and women of outstanding ability and experience who have a thirst for public service," Hon. Robert Abrams, Executive Chair of the Transition Committee and former New York Attorney General. "Andrew is committed to having the widest possible search throughout the nation for lawyers of quality and excellence who will carry out his mission of protecting public integrity, civil rights, the environment, consumers, investors, and the interests of the state."
