Statement From A.G. Schneiderman On The Death Of Osama Bin Laden
"The death of Osama bin Laden is an important moment in the history of our country and in the lives of all the families who lost loved ones on 9/11. While we will never forget the devastation of that day, or the struggles of the men and women in uniform who have sacrificed so much to keep us safe since then, this action will hopefully help provide a level of comfort to those families who still carry the burden of that tragedy.
“While bin Laden’s death represents a major step forward in our country's fight against global terrorism, it also serves to remind us that this fight continues and that we must remain vigilant and resolute in the face of threats of senseless violence. My office stands ready and willing to continue our partnership with the federal government in that effort.
"Today, we're also reminded of how all New Yorkers and Americans rallied as one community in the wake of the 9/11 attacks. As the President said last night, we are not now, nor will we ever be in a war against Islam. Rather, we are in a war against those who would seek to use radical doctrines to justify senseless violence. It is with that in mind that we must reaffirm our commitment to preserve and protect the values of freedom, justice, and liberty that America stands for around the world -- while continuing our vigilance in making sure every American is safe from terrorism.”
