Statement From A.G. Schneiderman On Legislation Related To Short-Term Rentals

ALBANY—Attorney General Eric T. Schneiderman issued the following statement on legislation related to short-term rentals in the New York State Legislature:

“Today’s vote by the legislature is a positive step toward protecting the rights of tenants and preventing the proliferation of illegal hotels in New York City. If Airbnb is going to avoid policing illegal activity on its own site – thus failing to live up to its promise to be a good corporate citizen – government actors will need to step in, and that’s what has happened today.”
