STATEMENT FROM A.G. SCHNEIDERMAN ON CLEAN POWER PLAN LITIGATION

New York Attorney General Eric T. Schneiderman, who leads a coalition of states and localities in defense of the Clean Power Plan, released the following statement in response to the U.S. Court of Appeals for the D.C. Circuit’s temporary pause in the litigation:

“Today’s temporary pause in the litigation does not relieve EPA of its legal obligation to limit carbon pollution from its largest source: fossil-fueled power plants.  Nor does it change the reality of the dire harm climate change is causing to communities around New York and across the country.

“The facts are clear: power plant pollution can be cut dramatically, while holding the line on utility bills, maintaining grid reliability, and adding billions of dollars and thousands of jobs to our economies, as New York and other states have shown.

“And as I’ve said, if President Trump wants to repeal the Clean Power Plan, he has to replace it – period.

“I will continue to fight in court to ensure EPA fulfills its legal responsibility to New Yorkers’ public health and environment.”
