STATEMENT FROM A.G. SCHNEIDERMAN ON THE REPORTED NOMINATION OF ANDREW PUZDER AS LABOR SECRETARY

NEW YORK – Attorney General Eric T. Schneiderman issued the following statement on President-elect Trump’s reported intention to nominate Andrew Puzder as Labor Secretary:

“President-elect Trump’s reported choice to lead the Labor Department has done everything in his power to undermine the rights of American workers, from driving down wages to opposing overtime pay. Even worse, Andrew Puzder presided over a fast-food chain that repeatedly stole workers’ hard earned wages. The fact that Mr. Puzder has now reportedly been selected to lead the same agency that uncovered wage theft at his restaurants is a cruel and baffling decision by President-elect Trump.

“Over the past five years, my office has won back nearly $27 million in wages stolen from over 20,000 low-wage workers, obtained dozens of convictions of employers who committed wage theft, and secured groundbreaking national agreements with major retailers to end the abusive practice of on-call scheduling. We won’t stop fighting to ensure that workers in fast-food and other industries are treated fairly—whether we have an ally at the Labor Department or not.”
