TUESDAY 10/24: A.G. SCHNEIDERMAN TO HOLD GUN BUYBACK IN ROCHESTER FROM 10 AM TO 2 PM

A.G.’s Office, With Rochester Police Department, Will Offer Cash For Working And Non-Working Firearms

ROCHESTER—Attorney General Eric T. Schneiderman today announced that his office will sponsor a gun buyback in Rochester on Tuesday, October 24th, as part of his office’s statewide gun buyback program in cities across New York. The Attorney General’s Office will be accepting, with no questions asked, working and non-working unloaded weapons in exchange for compensation on site. The event is a collaborative effort between the City of Rochester Police Department and the Attorney General’s Office. Tuesday’s gun buyback will take place at the Full Gospel Tabernacle Church, in the church’s adjoining annex building, located at 614 Clifford Avenue, from 10 A.M. to 2 P.M.

The Attorney General's office will offer money in the form of gift cards when a gun is received by law enforcement officers. Gift cards with the appropriate amount will be issued after each unloaded gun is received and secured by the officers on-site. Free gun locks will also be available for attendees of the gun buyback.

Guns must be transported to the drop-off site unloaded, in a plastic or paper bag or box. Both working and non-working firearms will be accepted, and there is no limit on the number of firearms an individual can turn in. Licensed gun dealers and active or retired law enforcement officers are not eligible for this program.

The Attorney General's Office will be providing the following compensation by gift card for firearms turned in on site:

$25 for non-working or antique firearms
$50 for rifles and shotguns
$75 for handguns
$100 for assault weapons

WHAT: Gun Buyback Hosted By Attorney General Eric Schneiderman
WHERE: Full Gospel Tabernacle Church, 614 Clifford Ave., Rochester, NY
WHEN: Tuesday October 24, 10 A.M. to 2 P.M.

Attorney General Schneiderman’s office has sponsored previous gun buy backs in the City of Rochester and has sponsored more than a dozen gun buybacks statewide since 2013, which have resulted in over 1,200 guns being turned in over the past four years.

The statewide gun buyback program is part of Attorney General Schneiderman’s broader effort to keep New Yorkers safe from gun violence.

The Attorney General’s Organized Crime Task Force has focused on taking violent gun traffickers off our streets. Attorney General Schneiderman developed Model Gun Show Procedures, a series of safety procedures for gun show operators in New York State, and announced new policies to help Facebook and Instagram curb illegal sales of firearms on their platforms. In 2016, the Attorney General released a first-of-its-kind analysis of tens of thousands of “crime guns” recovered by law enforcement, illustrating gun trafficking trends that undermine New York’s strong laws.
