Protecting the People
A Community Impact Hearing
New York Attorney General Letitia James hosted a community impact hearing on May 8, 2025 at SUNY Westchester Community College to hear from New Yorkers about the impact the Trump administration’s policies were having on their lives. Joined by California Attorney General Rob Bonta, Illinois Attorney General Kwame Raoul, Minnesota Attorney General Keith Ellison, and New Jersey Attorney General Matt Platkin, Attorney General James provided an update on her office’s work to protect New Yorkers’ rights and uphold the rule of law.
Since January 20, Attorney General James and her fellow attorneys general have been cutting through the chaos of the Trump administration to defend critical services, maintain the benefits people rely on, and fight back against federal overreach. The Office of the Attorney General (OAG) has filed more than a dozen lawsuits and amicus briefs against the Trump administration to ensure all New Yorkers – and all Americans – are protected from the attacks being levied by the federal government.
New Yorkers impacted by Trump administration service cuts, funding freezes, mass layoffs, and other harmful policies were encouraged to provide testimony and share their experiences with Attorney General James and her fellow attorneys general.
