As part of the Attorney General’s investigation into interactions between the New York City Police Department (NYPD) and the public during protests following the killing of George Floyd, Attorney General James held three days of public hearings. Joined by special advisors to the investigation, former United States Attorney General Loretta Lynch and founding Director of the New York University Policing Project Barry Friedman, the hearing featured testimony from members of the public, government officials, and community leaders.

The third day of the hearing featured testimony from NYPD Commissioner Dermot Shea.
