Regional Offices
The Office of the New York State Attorney General's regional offices address important matters of social and economic justice in the communities they serve by investigating and bringing action to protect consumers, civil rights, charitable donations, workers’ rights, and the environment. Each of our regional offices is deeply engaged in local community affairs; conducting outreach and educational presentations; and responding to New Yorkers’ complaints in critical areas such as elder abuse, consumer fraud, tenants’ rights, immigration services fraud, election fraud, and not-for-profit corporations.
Each regional office is headed by an Attorney in Charge and staffed with Assistant Attorneys General who represent the state, its officers, and agencies in court of claims, state, and federal court actions originating in their regions.
The regional offices recently added two specialized statewide enforcement units to support new initiatives:
Extreme Risk Protection Order Unit – Extreme Risk Protection Orders (ERPOs) temporarily prohibit people who are dangerous to themselves or others from purchasing or possessing a firearm. ERPOs are a critical part of New York’s efforts to keep residents safe from gun violence. The OAG’s ERPO Unit represents the New York State Police (NYSP) in ERPO hearings in supreme courts statewide.
Cannabis Enforcement Unit – The OAG’s Cannabis Enforcement Unit works with the New York State Office of Cannabis Management to enforce the Cannabis Law. The OAG acts to address unlicensed sales activity throughout the state and supports local authorities through enforcement trainings.
