New benefits for current and former Dashers
DoorDash is making changes for Dashers who use DoorDash’s app to deliver food in New York state.
For all Dashers:
- You will receive the full amount of tips that customers pay you.
- DoorDash will pay you the full amount that it guarantees to pay you.
- DoorDash will show the information about your tips and your guaranteed pay to both you and your customers on the DoorDash site and on the Dasher mobile app.
- There will be a hyperlink or something similar to easily get this information on the app.
- This information will be easily visible on the DoorDash website and app.
- Before accepting a delivery order, you will see the following information in the mobile app:
- estimated distance to complete the order
- minimum pay you will receive from DoorDash if you accept the order
- For each past delivery, you will be able to see your Dash History. This is the breakdown between your total compensation paid by DoorDash and the total tip paid by your customer:
- You will be able to see this information on the app for deliveries within the past five months (but no more than 200 delivery sessions).
- You can request your Dash History and some delivery information (date, time, approximate distance if available, and merchant you delivered for) for four years.
The following applies if you deliver for DoorDash outside of New York City and are not subject to New York City minimum-pay-rate requirements:
For each delivery, DoorDash must provide you with an itemized summary of pay information after you complete a delivery session. A session starts when you make yourself available to receive orders through the Dasher app and ends when you stop taking orders:
- base pay
- amount of compensation paid by DoorDash (including a breakdown of promotional pay, bonuses, and similar pay)
- amount of the consumer tip on that order
Frequently asked questions about the DoorDash settlement
Do I qualify for a settlement payment?
You may qualify if you completed deliveries in New York state using the DoorDash app between May 2017 through September 2019, and if a customer paid a tip on the delivery. For more details, see paragraphs 4-12 of the AOD.
The Attorney General is working with DoorDash to create a list of drivers who may qualify.
To determine the award for each Dasher, OAG will look at all deliveries during the settlement period where both:
- A customer paid tips on the delivery.
- DoorDash did not pay the Dasher more than it guaranteed the Dasher when they accepted the delivery.
OAG will calculate each Dasher’s share as a percentage of the total settlement fund that DoorDash has agreed to pay. This fund is based on deliveries during the period when DoorDash used customers’ tips to make up the guaranteed amount. If, using this method, OAG calculated a Dasher’s share to be less than $10, we will not issue a payment to that Dasher.
