Judicial system complaint regarding attorney, judge, or court

The OAG does not generally handle complaints about attorneys, judges, and courts. For issues regarding:

• attorneys – contact, the New York Unified Court System Attorney Disciplinary and Grievance Committee office based on the location of your lawyer.
• state judges – file a complaint with the New York State Commission of Judicial Conduct. For allegations of sexual harassment and bias related to race, national origin, sex, sexual orientation or other protected status, file a complaint against a judge at the Unified Court Service Managing Inspector General for Bias Matters.
• federal judges – for the New York State, contact the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Second Circuit or fill out a complaint form. For other states, contact the clerk's office of the appropriate US Court of Appeals.

Issues with a New York state agency or system

The OAG does not handle complaints about discrimination or misconduct by a state agency, the State University of New York system, New York State Police, SUNY police department, or a state correctional facility. For free legal assistance, contact Lawhelpny.org.
