AG James Fights To Halt Impending Public Charge Rule

AG James Fights to Halt Impending Public Charge Rule

NEW YORK – In response to the start of oral arguments today to issue a nationwide preliminary injunction on the public charge rule set to take effect on October 15, 2019, Attorney General Letitia James issued the following statement:

“The Trump Administration’s public charge rule is an egregious attempt to infringe upon the laws and the values of this country. If the rule is enforced next week, New Yorkers – citizens and non-citizens alike – will be adversely impacted. Healthcare premiums will rise, and children will needlessly go hungry. That’s why we are seeking an immediate halt to the implementation of this misguided rule and will continue to pursue every legal tool available to permanently stop it.”
