Attorney General James' Special Investigations and Prosecutions Unit Releases Report on Investigation into the Death of Robert Scott
WAYNE COUNTY-- Today, Attorney General Letitia James’ Special Investigations and Prosecutions Unit (SIPU) released its report into the death of Robert L. Scott. Over the course of the investigation, SIPU did not find adequate evidence to determine criminal culpability. As part of the report, SIPU recommends that the New York State Police Department equip officers with body-worn cameras. Attorney General James released the following statement:
“The death of Robert Scott is tragic and heartbreaking for his family and loved ones. The Special Investigations and Prosecutions Unit takes its responsibility to investigate unarmed civilian deaths as described in Executive Order No. 147 with the utmost seriousness and proceeds with the greatest care. New Yorkers deserve nothing less. That is precisely how our team conducted this investigation and drafted the report released publicly today. We hope this helps bring some closure to Robert Scott’s family and urge the New York State Police to adopt our recommendations.”
