Attorney General James Statement on Extension of DED for Liberian Immigrants

NEW YORK - In response to the extension of the Deferred Enforced Departure (DED) status for Liberian immigrants, Attorney General Letitia James released the following statement:

“Today’s decision to extend DED for Liberian immigrants is a victory in our fight for fairness and justice. As the New York State Attorney General, I will continue to fight for the rule of law and to protect immigrant communities. For generations, immigrant communities have contributed mightily to our economy and our overall society and have played an integral role in our City. They deserve a pathway to citizenship and to remain in this country.”

In March 2019, Attorney General Letitia James joined a coalition of attorneys general from nine states and the District of Columbia in supporting Liberians who filed suit to block President Trump’s termination of their Deferred Enforced Departure (DED) status.
