Attorney General James Statement on the Passing of Former District Attorney Robert Morgenthau

NEW YORK - Attorney General Letitia James released the following statement after the passing of former Manhattan District Attorney Robert Morgenthau:

“I am saddened to hear about the passing of former Manhattan District Attorney Robert Morgenthau, a man who dedicated his career to public service. Mr. Morgenthau served New York City for decades, taking on corporate greed, organized crime, and violence, all in the name of creating a safer and more just city. From his work to create the first sex-crimes unit, to his use of DNA testing and other innovative techniques, to ensuring the District Attorney’s Office hired more women and people of color, Mr. Morgenthau always moved the needle forward to reform our system. He understood that ensuring justice was about more than just winning cases – it required a more inclusive and representative system in order to truly be fairer to all. New York City is better because of his service and I send my deepest condolences to his family and loved ones.”
